      What is Ella®?

Ella® is a prescription-only emergency contraception pill that can help prevent pregnancy if taken within 5 days of unprotected sex or a contraception failure. Studies have found that it can reduce the likelihood of pregnancy by 85 percent. The sooner Ella® is taken, the more likely it will be effective.

Please email hello@tbd.health to request a telemedicine consult with a licensed healthcare provider at TBD Health if you have additional questions on how Ella® works. You can also contact your licensed healthcare provider or a pharmacist.

Does weight effect how Ella® works?

Ella is considered more effective than other morning-after pills if you weigh more than 155 pounds. Ella becomes less effective if you weigh more than 195 pounds.

How quickly do I need to take Ella® after unprotected sex or failure of other contraception?

It is recommended that Ella be taken within 5 days (120 hours) after having unprotected sex.

      Does Ella® have side effects?

Side effects of Ella® may include headache, nausea, stomach (abdominal pain), menstrual pain, tiredness or dizziness. Call TBD Health or another health care provider if you experience any of these or other symptoms after taking Ella®. If you vomit within 2 hours of taking Ella®, call a healthcare professional to find out if you should repeat the dose.

Some people may also have their next period earlier or later than expected. If your period is more than a week late, we recommend that you take a pregnancy test.
