How does My Way® emergency contraception work?
The active ingredient in My Way® is called levonorgestrel. Levonorgestrel is a hormone that, when taken within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected sex or failure of contraceptive methods, can prevent a pregnancy before it begins.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a telemedicine consult with a licensed healthcare provider at TBD Health if you have additional questions on how levonorgestrel works.
How quickly do I need to take this emergency contraception after unprotected sex or failure of other contraception?
Take within 72 hours (3 days) of contraceptive failure like: a broken condom, missing 2 days of birth control or unprotected sex, for example. The sooner My Way® is taken after one of these events, the more likely it will be effective.
Does My Way® expire?
The current batch that our pharmacy has will expire in December 2024.
How is it shipped?
Your emergency contraception is delivered right to your door. Shipping is available to all 50 states as well as Puerto Rico. We offer free next-day shipping (overnight to 2-business day guarantee*) with purchases of 2 or more doses. Standard shipping is always free and is delivered between 3-5 days.
*Note: For orders placed before noon PT. Shipping may take longer for some rural zip codes and Puerto Rico.
What could impact the effectiveness of emergency contraception?
There are factors that can affect the effectiveness of My Way®, like: where you are in your menstrual cycle, your weight, how soon you took the pill after unprotected sex or a contraceptive failure, and if you’re on any other medications or drugs that might interfere with the drug.
If your period is more than a week late after taking My Way®, it is recommended that you take a pregnancy test or talk with your health care provider.
Is there a weight limit?
If you weigh more than 165 pounds, we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider. Here’s why: while the FDA states that there are no concerns, regardless of weight, that would prevent anyone from using levonorgestrel emergency contraceptives safely, some studies suggest that efficacy declines as weight and BMI increase. There are alternatives, however – such as Ella® or a copper IUD. Talk with your health care provider or email email@example.com for more information.
We strongly believe that anyone, regardless of weight, should have access to safe over-the-counter emergency contraception, period. We call on the FDA to approve a higher dose emergency contraception that is safe for all shapes, sizes and bodies.
Can I use emergency contraception as regular birth control?
No, My Way® is not intended for use as regular birth control.
So, is this an abortion pill?
My Way® is not an abortion medication because it will not affect an existing pregnancy.
Are there any known side effects to My Way®?
Side effects may include changes in your period, nausea, lower stomach (abdominal) pain, tiredness, headache, dizziness, and breast tenderness. Call your health care provider if you experience any of these or other symptoms after taking My Way®. If you vomit within 2 hours of taking My Way®, call a healthcare professional to find out if you should repeat the dose.
Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to levonorgestrel.
